North Yuba Water District Receives Significant Grant Funding Boost From Yuba Water Agency

North Yuba Water District Receives Significant Grant Funding Boost

Yuba Water Agency recently approved an amendment to increase grant award funding to North Yuba Water District. The grant, which is designated to support the replacement of NYWD’s aging residential and agricultural water meters, was initially made for $240,000. In October, Yuba Water amended the grant amount to $1.6 million.

The meter replacement will allow for remote meter readings to detect leaks early, thereby improving water use efficiency. NYWD will utilize the grant funds as a local match for which will help to qualify for a possible $2 million federal grant. In addition, the district will contribute $705,000 of the annual budget toward the project.

In addition, previously Yuba Water approved a $761,083 cost-share grant for canal improvements for a NYWD canal stabilization project. The project involves lining 10,850 feet of canal to reduce water loss and improve water delivery reliability to residents in Brownsville, Frenchtown, Dobbins and Oregon House. The grant will cover half of the project expense, with the remaining funds coming from the NYWD budget.

“We are honored to have been selected for the grant funding to support these critical infrastructure projects,” commented NYWD’s board chair, Marike Furnee.

“The impact of the support from Yuba Water Agency cannot be understated. The work completed with grant funds has resulted in significant water savings and enabled NYWD to successfully complete two years of irrigation water delivery,” she added.

The NYWD grants are just one of several investments Yuba Water Agency has committed to local water agencies and community partners to improve local water supply reliability.
